The Cherokee Indians who lived in the southeastern United States were educated community leaders. The United States government was about to force them from their mountain hiding places on to a winter death march to Oklahoma. Of the 20,000 who started the march in 1839, a thousand died on the six month journey.
This book honors a great love between an Indian half breed and an independent educated white daughter of a tycoon owner of a large slave plantation.
Through the pages of this book we are able to share instances of courage with which the two lovers supported and inspired this desperate group through their own courage and spiritual strength.
